Mr Rajan S Patel MBChB, MD, FRCS (ORLHNS), FRACS (ORLHNS)

Rajan was appointed Consultant Surgeon at Auckland City Hospital in 2009 for his extensive surgical training and expertise in head and neck surgery and reconstructive microsurgery. Rajan was awarded his medical degree (MBChB) by the University of Glasgow, Scotland in 1995. Following basic surgical training in a variety of surgical specialities including plastic surgery, Rajan commenced advanced ORLHNS training in Bristol, England. He qualified as a specialist surgeon in ORLHNS in 2006. Thereafter, Rajan undertook additional specialist fellowship training (1 year at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, University of Sydney and 2 years at the Toronto General Hospital, University of Toronto) in head and neck surgery and reconstructive microsurgery of the head and neck. Whilst working in Toronto he was awarded the prestigious fellowship in head and neck surgery accredited by the American Head and Neck Society. In 2011 the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons awarded Rajan the Fellowship of the College (FRACS).

 

Rajan has a strong background in research. He has published over 40 articles in scientific journals as well as several book chapters on head and neck surgery. In 2005 he was awarded Doctor of Medicine (MD) diploma by the University of Glasgow for his research efforts, and in 2010 he was appointed Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland.

 

Rajan is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, the Australian and New Zealand Head and Neck Society, the American Head and Neck Society, the New Zealand Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, the British Association of Otorhinolaryngologists, Head and Neck Surgeons, theBritish Association of Head and Neck Oncologists
